Food safety on new fish market

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has declared that it has already began to take the necessary steps to enforce the best international food safety standards at the new fish market currently being built by Lulu Hypermarket group at the Airport Road in Abu Dhabi. The market is due to open after four months.

The Authority, which is working closely with the developers of the new market during construction to ensure all safeguards are strictly adhered to, made it clear that the market would have to be run as per strict food safety norms, especially since it will also have meat and vegetable products for sale.

Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Public Relations '&' Communications at the Authority, disclosed that the Authority was also coordinating with the concerned authorities on building a new fish market in Saadiyat Island to replace the one in Mina Zayed. "We held a number of meetings with Abu Dhabi Fishermen Cooperative Society to ensure that the Authority is involved in the process right from the building so that it could put in place all required safety and hygiene safeguards from early on," he explained.
